If you or someone in your family has been arrested or charged with a felony in Guadalupe County, I can help. I’m Mario Del Prado, Board Certified in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and I defend serious felony cases in Seguin as well as in San Antonio. In 2026 I obtained a dismissal in Guadalupe County of charges that included aggravated sexual assault of a child. Call me at 210-663-3750.

Guadalupe County sits right next to Bexar, and a lot of my clients live on one side of the line and were arrested on the other. Schertz, Cibolo, Marion and the east side of New Braunfels all feed into the courthouse in Seguin. The law is the same as in San Antonio. The courthouse is not.

Where felony cases are heard

Felony cases in Guadalupe County go to the district courts at the Guadalupe County Justice Center, 211 W. Court Street in Seguin. Misdemeanors are handled separately, in the county courts at law.

The cases I take here

I focus on the charges where the stakes are highest: murder and other homicide cases, aggravated assault, sexual assault, child sex offenses including indecency with a child and aggravated sexual assault of a child, aggravated robbery and serious drug cases. I spent years building these cases for the State in Bexar County, most recently as Chief of the Criminal Trial Division and then Chief of Major Crimes from 2019 to 2022. I know where they tend to be weakest.

A recent result

In 2026 I obtained a full dismissal in Guadalupe County for a client charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child, indecency with a child and improper relationship between educator and student. The charges were dismissed before trial. Every case is different, and a past result does not guarantee the same outcome in yours.

Questions families ask

Do you handle felony cases in Guadalupe County?

Yes. I defend serious felony cases in Seguin and across Guadalupe County, as well as in Bexar and the surrounding counties.

My son was arrested in Schertz. Is his case in Guadalupe County?

It depends on exactly where the arrest happened. Schertz spreads across Guadalupe, Bexar and Comal counties, so a case can land in Seguin, San Antonio or New Braunfels. The arrest paperwork or the jail he was booked into will tell you which county has it. I handle all three.

Does it matter that you are based in San Antonio?

Seguin is less than an hour from my office, and I am in court there when the case requires it. What matters more is whether your lawyer has tried serious felony cases and knows how the State builds them.

What should we do if police want to talk to my family member before he is charged?

He should politely say he wants a lawyer and stop talking. Then call one. The first interview is often the State’s best evidence, and the work I do before charges are filed can change what happens next.

What is the punishment range for a first-degree felony in Texas?

Five to 99 years or life in prison, and a fine of up to $10,000. Some offenses carry higher minimums or rules that affect parole, which is why the exact charge matters.

Can a serious felony case in Guadalupe County be dismissed before trial?

Sometimes. It happened in the 2026 case described above. Dismissals usually come from finding real problems in the State’s evidence early, through investigation, pretrial motions and direct work with the prosecutor. I can’t promise one in any particular case.
